During the Autoweek Design Forum at the COBO Center in Detroit, venue of the 2003 North America Auto Show, Wednesday January 8 2003 took place the ceremony in which were awarded the finalists of the ”Automotive News Concept Car of the Year” in which the Alfa Romeo Brera participated in two categories: best exterior design and best Concept car of the year.
The concept car designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro got the first prize in both categories by a highly specialized jury, comprising amongst others Akira Fujimoto of Car Styling, Ken Greenley of the Royal College of Arts, Gordon Murray of McLaren Cars Ltd, Rick Ceppos of the Autoweek magazine, Chuck Jordan former Head of Design at GM and Chris Wright of the Automotive News Europe magazine.
This acknowledgement, attributed to the prototype created by Italdesign Giugiaro before around 700 high caliber representatives of the world auto-maker community and leading members of the specialized world press, both confirms and increases the already large number of awards carried off by the Alfa Romeo Brera previewed at the 2002 Geneva International Motor Show in 2002.
