An intimate event created for the passionate and discerning connoisseur. In its third year, The Quail pays a tribute to the legendary Mexican race of the 1950’s, La Carrera Panamericana, featuring 20 cars that have participated in the challenging road race, as well as another 100 pre and post-war sports and racing cars that have significantly influenced today’s world of automobiles.

Along with these rarities will be an extraordinary display of vintage motorcycles, an exhibition of Automotive Fine Art Photography, an important sale from Bonhams & Butterfields Auction featuring jewelry, automobilia and rare vintage cars, an opportunity to test drive Bentley’s latest luxury automobiles and partake the Range Rover Experience, an off-road hillclimb on the property of Quail Lodge, as well as many interactive displays of skilled craftsmanship.

What had to be even more exciting than the arrival of the new EB16, was the world debut of Ron Kellogg's Bugatti 57/59 Special Roadster at This years Quail. Here a true is labor of love in the true spirt of Bugatti. 

To say the workmanship is stunning is almost an understatement. The visual impact this Bugatti is overwhelming. Thanks to the vision of the folks at "Auto Aficionado" Anyone who wants to know the indepth history of this project can order the Sept/Oct 2005 issue.

Also in December we will publish a detailed photo essay on Mr.Kellogg's & Andy Palmers creation. Our will deal with the Bugatti from the inside out. As we photographer this Bugatti before it appeared "dressed" for the Quail.

Also another aspect of this amazing project is that Ron & Sonya Kellogg's project is that it was sanctioned with the full blessing of the Bugatti Trust! That is why it carries the factory badging, along with the correct motor and chassis.

We need to really take time to shine a spotlight on Andy Palmer. Who made the Bugatti into a reality. His "Kiwi" carftsmanship shines as bright as any you could find back in the New Zeland. Andy who is based in southern California has devoted several years to reaching the Kellogg's goal of perfection. Anyone who attended Quail was almost speachless when viewing this trophy of Bugatti history.

WE give our readers who have never attended Quail a good definition of what we found in our first ever coverage. Needless to say when you see the gallery that we loaded for our readers enjoyment. You will know we will add Quail to our annual coverage to our Monterey Auto coverage.

Also as The Quail is a young event in the Monterey enviorment it seem to not get the depth of coverage from the traditional automotive mothly publications. We find this rather strange in view of the void of high quality automotive historic events world wide.

A classic example of the lack of magazine coverage was, this years example set by major British classic automotive publishers.

The total coverage by the 2 top classic monthly magazines was a 1/4 page and 3 postage size photos!!  One magazine did however devoted a spread that showed a whopping total of 10 photos. That really was 1 (5x7) and 9 very small 1x2 inch images showing 3 cars from each major monterey event and the large photo of the best in show for Pebble Beach. Sad to say the least.

As you wonder the lawn at Quail experience a totally different enviorment that you find anywhere else in Monterey.

There is a complete sense of casual apperciation and enjoyment that is serious lacking. There are no chains or enviormental restrictions on the public. The public's respect for the displays of automotive at Quail is unforced.
