Auto Shows
Every year we at Motorsports Center, look for a original, and fresh vintage events to suggest to our readers. Often we can only accept very few of the invitations that stream into our mail. However this year we agreed to attend could develop into a major concourse event. Many people outside of Orange County, California, have never heard of the Muckenthaler Center. Located in Fullerton, Muckenthaler is one of California's most active supporters of the arts.
Now in it's 12th year the Muckenthaler Motor Car Festival is more than just a one day casual car show. The Muckenthaler is a full weekend auto cultural celebration of automotive history and lifestyle. Saturday is complete Hod Rod only show, then sunday is the classic auto festival. The Muckenthaler is major Orange County landmark. the grounds are an excellent stage for some of the most exciting vintage and collectable icons of the automotive artform.

As the automotive age is now in it's second century, concourses like the Muckenthaler are in some ways better in composition than the big international events in Monterey. Why? Because the vast majority of the cars on display are a deeper mix of historcal layering. No way you say. Not when you consider the vast majority of models or brands that are consider not politically chic. Or wont support the outrageous ticket prices. All of the Monterey events are excellent but have become predictable. Plus there is room in this world for quality events that have an original blend of car culture.
The publics contact at Muckenthaler is directly with the actual owner. Who in many cases is driving what may be the only automotive gem he wants to preserve and drive. Rather than the mega collectors, with the army of detailers, and personal transport trailers. The experience is just not the same. Versus a real conversation.
Chances are that most the owners and cars at Muckenthaler know everything about their "baby" as they both owner and crew. For the public the automotive concourse is really a class room for world history, econmics, and design. There are so many lessons to be learned and the public suddenly comes face to face with all of the lessons in a spirt desire to understand the toys of great automotive age.
It is in this vain that Muckenthaler is really delivering a better than average auto show experience. Historical diversity was really in full view at this years event. We do not feel the need to describe every car we found. Also we have focused our lens at a few of the automotive gems that we felt needed to be offered to our readers. Needless to say we can never include all of the cars in attendance. We have also provided a full listing of the vintage and classic winners. Next year we hope to be able to cover both days.

This years "Best In Show" is the Buggatti 57 / 59 Special Roadster, ownerd by Ron & Sonia Kellogg of Whitter, Ca. The Kellogg's Bugatti has a very special history, as well as stunning coachwork. The Kellogg's Bugatti made it's first apperance at The Quail / 2005 and was the buzz of the show. We are Motorsports Center have already published story on this gem. The Kelloggs & the Bugatti were also recently awarded honors at the Grand National Show in Pomona. We suggest you also read the excellent article that was published in Auto Aficionado last year. We think that it is impossible to take a bad photo of this car.
So it is best that we let the images do the talking.
Ron is always happy to help enlighten anyone who has never seen a Bugatti or is not familar with the Bugatti history. There was a crowd around the Bugatti all day long. Sometimes as many as 50 people deep.
