In celebration of its fortieth anniversary, Lamborghini had head designer Luc Donkerwolke pen a vicious open top car. Inspired by open top racers of the 1950s, and drawing upon Lamborghini’s heritage in open top vehicles from the 350 GTS to the Diablo Roadster, Luc created the Barchetta concept.
This V12 powered speed freak is derived from the Murcielago. The Barchetta looks very similar to the Murcielago up front, but after that the two cars flow along different lines. The Barchetta is 136 mm lower than the Murcielago, and with its topless form it looks much longer and lower slung. It is much edgier and bolder than its hardtop counterpart. It sits upon some very aggressive, hard-lined wheels which could lend a mean appearance to just about any vehicle.
The trend in the rear of the car starts in the cockpit. Triangular headrest tops are projected to the rear of the car, creating an angular valley lined with vents over the engine cover. The top view pays hommage to an open-topped V12 predecessor, the Miura Roadster. And the Lamborghini style is completed with scissor doors opening up to the sky, like arms raised in triumphant exuberation of this car’s awesomeness.
Although this car is labeled as a concept, it is very likely to go into production. We anxiously await the final word.
