Ferrari Challenge at Mugello

Mugello, 16th May - Mugello hosted races for the third round of the Ferrari Challenge Pirelli Trophy Italy today. The Italian one make series for 360 Challenge cars saw wins for Fabio Santaniello and Andrea Belluzzi in the Pirelli Trophy and for Salvatore Insigne and Quinto Stefana in the Shell Cup for gentlemen drivers.

In Race 1, overall victory went to Santaniello (Maranello) who crossed the finish line ahead of Matteo Malucelli (Motor/Malucelli) and Andrea Belluzzi (Daytona.) The third placed man then came out on top in the second race, when he profited from the retirement of Malucelli who spun out. The man from San Marino took the chequered flag ahead of Santaniello and Roberto Papini (Cdp) who was making his first visit to the podium in a 360 Challenge. Thanks to this result, Santaniello is promoted to first place in the classification of the Pirelli Trophy on 70 points, followed by Malucelli (67) and Belluzzi (54.)

There was excitement and spectacle in the races for gentlemen drivers in the Shell Cup. The sprint race went to Insigne (Maranello,) with Stefana (Rossocorsa) and Sandro Mucelli (Ineco) in second and third places respectively. Stefana went on to take the win in Race 2, keeping Mucelli and Raffaele De Simone (Ineco) behind him. De Simone put on a show as he fought his way up from 10th on the grid. Stefana thus consolidates his lead in the overall classification of the Shell Cup with 100 points, ahead of Mucelli (63) and Insigne (50.)

The new television satellite channel, Sportitalia will show extensive highlights of the Ferrari Challenge Pirelli Trophy races from Mugello, on Sunday 23rd May at 17h00, repeated on Monday 24th May at 15h00. Nuvolari, part of the Sky satellite network will broadcast a special on the weekend at the Tuscany circuit, on Friday 21st May at 22h00, repeated on Saturday 22nd at 16h30 and Monday 24th at 10h00.

The next round of the Ferrari Challenge Pirelli Trophy Italia takes place at the Misano Adriatico circuit on 12th and 13th June.
